Becoming Anthropos
The word Anthropos comes from the Greek for ‘Man’ or ‘Humankind’. While semantically incorrect in its coalescing of the various genders, the word does not mean ’Man’ in the limited sense of ’male human being’ but rather that of the collective whole of humanity.
To be Anthropos is to be fully human, to embody and live through the entire human experience, both the complete catastrophe and the profound bliss that weaves throughout our everyday lives.
This account intends to serve as an archival resource for a defined, rigorous, nuanced exploration of a framework with which we can all utilise, adjust, explore in an attempt to more deeply understand ourselves and those around us; with the express intention of moving more deeply into the full spectrum of emotions, experiences, and lessons which make up the human experience.
The above picture is of the “vision of the great stone, the Benedictine superman supporting as Atlas the cosmic globe with its multitude of stars, the earth occupying the centre”. This image is accompanied by a verse describing the embodied Anthropos:
I am the one who carries heaven and earth
While studying both with the utmost diligence.
First I display prudence, then simplicity,
That my day’s wages may follow soon.
We have been thrown into this life, surrounded by the darkness of our own ignorance, the involuntary traumas, circumstances, and experiences which have befallen us all. The only way forward is to consciously move towards the light of our own understanding, to move into embodied wisdom and love. I look forward to sharing this exploration with you.
